FORT BEND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Bringing Culture to Your Doorstep
F B S O C a r e s
The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra makes a special effort to reach the community by maintaining a website, working with local schools and teachers, performing in a variety of locations in the community, liaising with senior groups, and providing access to the arts for persons with intellectual disabilities.
Part of FBSO’s vision is to endeavor to have every child in Fort Bend County touched by classical music before graduating high school. Research has shown that students' involvement in their school music program is crucial to a complete education. Musical study develops critical thinking and self discipline skills and improves a child's early cognitive development, basic math and reading abilities, self-esteem, SAT scores, ability to work in teams, spatial reasoning skills, and school attendance. Also, researchers have found that children involved with music education are less likely to be involved with gangs and substance abuse, and are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college.
To facilitate that vision, FBSO has a ticket disbursement program for elementary, middle, and high school students, facilitated though their music teachers and private instrument instructors, and individuals with intellectual disabilities, facilitated through local non-profits. A few area music instructors and program administrators are provided with a limited number of tickets on a rolling basis to distribute to interested students and individuals. These students and individuals attend the concert with a parent or guardian, and fill out a survey after the concert. If your child’s or your music program, outreach program or non-profit would like to be added to the list to receive tickets, please contact info@fbso.org.
